Description

The CDM project is a solar power generation project. The annual estimated power generation for proposed solar PV plant is 24,083 MWh. The electricity generated by the project activity would be sold to the NEWNE through Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) contract. The project is a green field acticvity, as there was no other activity at the site of the project participant prior to the implementation of this project activity. The  pre-project scenario did not involved the generation of solar PV based power and supplying it to the grid, therefore, in the absence of the project activity, the equivalent amount of electricity would have been generated from the connected / new power plants in the NEWNE grid. The average annual and total emission reductions for a crediting period of7 years due to project activity are 22,948 and 160,636 tCO2 respectively.

Situation on the ground:

Due to the areas required for the implementation of the project activity, only limited space is left available for agricultural activities, which is the main source of income for the local population. This is of special importance as employment opportunities are not created by the project activity for local villagers. This is opposing to the promise that was given in the Project design Document (PDD) where is was outlined that employment opportunities will be generated which shall also further lead to the alleviation of poverty in the nearby area of the project activity. Land has been sold by local land owners to the project proponent under pressure of higher officials. Furthermore, the local population did not benefit from the project activity regarding infrastructural developments or the creation of medial or educational improvements. The development of supporting infrastructure such as road network, however, was among the promises given by the project proponent regarding sustainable development benefits for social well-being.
